XXII European Congress of Lepidopterology
The University of Tartu, together with Societas Europaea Lepidopterologica and Estonian Naturalists’ Society, are organizing the XXII European Congress of Lepidopterology on June 06-11, 2022, at Laulasmaa, Estonia. This is the first time for this conference to take place in Estonia.
The conference will discuss current trends in contemporary lepidopterology, such as taxonomy (nowadays primarily implying molecular, incl. genomic studies), and various ecological and conservational topics. Special symposia will take place on topics such as
Currently, the science of lepitopterology is gaining more attention in Estonia, Europe and in the world, largely due to climate change, habitat loss and other anthropogenic impacts influencing insects. At the same time, there are challenges like implementing modern genomic methods in reconstructing phylogenies, and integrating available amateur data. Many professionals, students and amateurs in the field lack the training and support needed to effectively cooperate and exchange knowledge on different methods and approaches.
The conference will help to:
In addition to the scholarly program, there will be various opportunities for exploring the towns of Tallinn, Haapsalu and Paldiski, rural areas in Harjumaa county, the coast of the Baltic Sea, trying out the tastes of Estonia and discovering the culture in the museums of Rocca al Mare, Padise and Pakri, while socializing with old and new colleagues.
